Caregiver Essentials (January 7)

From making a great first impression to maintaining healthy working relationships, this course will teach you how to succeed in your work from day one. Learn how to set and maintain boundaries, protect confidentiality, manage your time, and communicate effectively with those you provide care for.

Freedom from Smoking (Jan 8-Feb 19)

Are you ready to quit smoking? Finding your path to a smoke-free life is easier with the right help. The American Lung Association’s Freedom from Smoking program is a proven way to quit smoking—and stay quit—even if you’ve tried before and went back to smoking. Over the course of eight classes, you’ll set a quit date, build a quit plan, and work through your first smoke-free weeks with the support of your classmates.

Class dates: Jan 8, 15, 22, 29, 31, Feb 5, 12 and 19  All classes are from 2-4 pm

Living Well with a Chronic Condition (Jan 16-Feb 20)

Improve your quality of life and lower your health care costs with this 6-week interactive workshop that will help you take charge of your chronic disease. Learn techniques for dealing with frustration, fatigue, pain, and isolation; build your strength and endurance; and learn how to effectively communicate with family, friends, and health professionals. Participants will work together over this six-week course to share experiences, make action plans, and problem-solve alongside others with chronic conditions such as heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, depression, asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema.

Class dates: Thursday, Jan 16-Feb 20, 2-4:30 pm.

Self-Care for Caregivers (February 4)

Take responsibility for your self-care and improve your mental, emotional, and physical health. Identifying sources of strength, such as healthy activities, family, mentors, and friends can help minimize stress. Discussion will include identifying warning signs and ways to make self-care a priority.

CPR/ First Aid (Feb 7)

Learn basic CPR and First Aid, including use of AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators). Areas of focus include sudden cardiac arrest, choking, basic life support care, and serious injury. Certificate provided upon completion.

Diabetes Self Management (Feb. 11 to March 17)

Take charge of your diabetes. Learn about self-care and symptom management and how to make choices that lead to better health. This interactive workshop includes hands-on activities, demonstrations, role play, and games in a fun and supportive environment.

Chair Yoga (Feb. 24- Mar. 9)

De-stress with this low-impact yoga class combining gentle movement with mindfulness techniques.

Mondays, February 24, March 2 and 9 from 3:15-4.

Bus Basics (February 26)

Get an overview of our local bus system and learn to ride with confidence.  Learn about fares, passes, and payment options and become an expert at reading the bus schedule.

Universal Precautions (March 3)

Protect yourself and those you provide care for from disease transmission. Learn how diseases are transmitted, the difference between bacterial infections and viral infections, and personal protective equipment you can use to keep yourself and those you care for safe.
