Freedom from Smoking (Jul 10-Aug 21)

Are you ready to quit smoking? Finding your path to a smoke-free life is easier with the right help. The American Lung Association’s Freedom from Smoking program is a proven way to quit smoking—and stay quit—even if you’ve tried before and went back to smoking. Over the course of eight classes, you’ll set a quit date, build a quit plan, and work through your first smoke-free weeks with the support of your classmates.

Class dates: July 10, 17, 24, 31 and August 2, 7, 14, 21.  All classes are from 2-4 PM

Living Well with a Chronic Condition (Jul 11-Aug 15)

Improve your quality of life and lower your health care costs with this 6-week interactive workshop that will help you take charge of your chronic disease. Learn techniques for dealing with frustration, fatigue, pain, and isolation; build your strength and endurance; and learn how to effectively communicate with family, friends, and health professionals. Participants will work together over this six-week course to share experiences, make action plans, and problem-solve alongside others with chronic conditions such as heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, depression, asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema.

Class dates: Thursdays, July 11-Aug 15, from 1:30-4 pm.

Get an overview of our local bus system and learn to ride with confidence.  Learn about fares, passes, and payment options and become an expert at reading the bus schedule.

Diabetes Empowerment Education Program (Jul 25-Aug 29)

Take charge of your diabetes. Learn about self-care and symptom management and how to make choices that lead to better health. This interactive workshop includes hands-on activities, demonstrations, role play, and games in a fun and supportive environment.

Food & Mood (Aug 15-19)

Reduce stress, increase energy, and improve your health by incorporating simple exercises and stretching into your everyday routine. Includes tips and tricks to address stress, anxiety, and sleep issues.

CPR & First Aid (Aug 10)

Learn basic CPR and First Aid, including use of AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators). Areas of focus include sudden cardiac arrest, choking, basic life support care, and serious injury. Certificate provided upon completion.

Lifting Techniques for Home Caregivers

You don’t have to be a bodybuilder to lift someone safely. Learn lifting and transferring techniques to move someone into and out of a car, chair, bed, or bathtub without hurting her or yourself.
