Living Well with a Chronic Condition

6-week series. Classes are on Tuesdays, September 4-October 9, 1:00-3:30 pm.

Improve your quality of life and lower your health care costs with this innovative, interactive workshop that will help you take charge of your chronic disease. Learn techniques for dealing with frustration, fatigue, pain, and isolation; build your strength and endurance; and learn how to effectively communicate with family, friends, and health professionals.

Participants will work together over this six-week course to share experiences, make action plans, and problem-solve alongside others with chronic conditions such as heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, depression, asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema.

Diabetes Empowerment Education Program (DEEP)

Six-week class: Thursdays, September 6th through October 11th, 1:00-3:00 pm.

Take charge of your diabetes. Learn about self-care and symptom management and how to make choices that lead to better health. This interactive workshop includes hands-on activities, demonstrations, role play, and games in a fun and supportive environment.

Week 6: Living with Diabetes- Medications, Mobilizing Friends & Family

CPR & First Aid

2-day class. September 11 & 13, 6:00-8:30 pm. You must attend both classes to recieve a certificate.

Learn basic CPR and First Aid, including use of AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators). Areas of focus include sudden cardiac arrest, choking, basic life support care, and serious injury. Certificate provided upon completion.

Mental Health First Aid

2-day class. September 17 & 18, 9:00 am-1:00 pm.

Mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety, psychosis, and substance use are shockingly common in the United States.More than one in five American adults will have a mental health problem in any given year. You can be prepared by building the knowledge and skills you need to help individuals who are developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. 

In this training you’ll learn to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses.

Freedom from Smoking

8-class series. Classes are September 26, October 3, 10, 17, 19, 24, 31, November 4, 2:00-4:00 pm.

Ready to quit smoking? Finding your path to a smoke-free life is easier with the right help. The American Lung Association’s Freedom from Smoking program is a proven way to quit smoking—and stay quit—even if you’ve tried before and went back to smoking. Over the course of eight classes, you’ll set a quit date, build a quit plan, and work through your first few months smoke-free with the support of your classmates.

The Confident Dementia Caregiver

2-day class. November 7 & 8, 1:00-4:00 pm

Feel comfortable and knowledgeable when assisting someone with dementia. Learn about the causes of various types of dementia, appropriate tools for redirection, and how to work with common behaviors of those experiencing memory loss. Explore realistic approaches to repetitive, agitated, orcombative behavior.
